How to Apply

Undergraduate Full-time Applications

All applications to full-time undergraduate courses should be made through UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service), using the UCAS on-line application form. This service allows for an application for up to five course choices at the same or different institutions in the UK.
If you are applying to more than one course at university or college, the cost for 2011 entry is £21. If you only apply to one course at one university or college, the cost is £11. Further guidance and information is available on the UCAS website www.ucas.com , or contact the UCAS Customer Service Unit on 0871 4680468 (or 0044 871 4680468 from outside the UK).
If you are currently studying at a school or college, advice on the application process will be available from your tutor. Other applicants can seek advice from their local careers advisory service.

Part-time Applications

Mature Student Applications

The University welcomes applications from mature students and will give careful individual consideration if you do not meet the standard entry requirements. The University will take into account any alternative qualifications or work experience you may have.

When to Apply

Applications for full-time courses should reach UCAS between 1 September and 15 January of the year prior to entry. There is provision for late applications up to 30 June, but only if suitable vacancies remain. The UCAS website will advise on course vacancies at the point of application.
If you are an international applicant you can apply up to 30 June, but are advised to contact the University before making an application to check if the course still has vacancies.
Part-time applications are welcomed from September onwards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply directly to the second or third year?

We are happy to consider applications directly to years 2 and 3 of undergraduate programmes if you are able to provide evidence that you have successfully completed a course equivalent to year one/two of the course for which you are applying. Applications should be made via UCAS. The University will contact you once you have submitted an application and will make its decision based on the information you provide. This process is known as Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL). Full details of the University’s APL procedure can be found in the student handbook on the link below:

Can I defer my application (gap year)?

We welcome applications from students who are planning on taking a gap year. You can apply by 15 January even if you intend to start your degree programme in September. You will need to indicate on your UCAS application that you wish to be deferred and we will be interested to read in your personal statement how you intend to spend the year.

Will I be required to attend an interview?

Interviews are not a pre-requisite for admission for the majority of our undergraduate courses. However, some departments may request an interview, particularly in the subjects of art and design, health and social care and biological sciences. The University will contact you if you are required to attend an interview.

What does my offer mean?

There are two types of offer we can make on your application. Conditional means that your place is subject to you achieving the entry requirements set by the University. Unconditional means that you have already fulfilled the entry requirements and we are happy to offer you a place.
When all of your chosen universities have decided whether to offer you a place, UCAS will contact you with details of how to reply to these offers.

How can I track my application?

Once you have completed your application, you can use UCAS Track to keep up-to-date with the progress of your application and reply to your offers.

What does my offer mean?

What happens once I have accepted my offer?

Once you have accepted our offer, we will contact you again on receipt of your examination results. If you have met the conditions, we will send you an induction pack which will contain all the information you need to begin your studies in September. If your original offer was unconditional, you can expect to receive your induction pack in August.

What happens if my application is unsuccessful?

If your application is unsuccessful you will be able to view the reason for rejection on UCAS Track. If you are unhappy either about the way in which your application has been processed or about a decision not to be offered a place, please refer to our Admissions Policy for further guidance.

What fee will I be asked to pay?

Students are charged different fees depending on whether they are classed as home or overseas. We will usually be able to determine your status from the information provided on your UCAS application form. If there is any doubt we will ask you to complete a fee status questionnaire which should provide the additional information we need.
