Admission

New undergraduate engineering students with a UAC preference for The University of Sydney.

Admission for Australian students completing the HSC, or equivalent in other States, (also onshore international students, offshore Australian permanent residents and citizens, and permanent residents and citizens of NZ) is through the University Admission Centre (UAC). We cannot admit you unless you have applied through UAC and meet their requirements.


Admission for HECS tertiary students wishing to transfer from other universities must also apply through UAC.

The University publishes its entry rankings, Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) for all its degrees and in the UAC Handbook.

Faculty of Engineering Flexible Entry Scheme

Flexible Entry Scheme allows students who are close to published Admission Ranking (ATAR) cut-offs to apply and be considered for Commonwealth supported places and gain entry based on assessment of Engineering or IT ability, leadership skills and other related criteria. International Students should view the information for future international undergraduates.

Scholarships

A wide range of scholarships (for Australian students) are available in the Faculty of Engineering & IT, some which are funded by the University of Sydney and others which are funded by leading companies and involve invaluable work experience with the sponsor.

Scholarships range in value from $1000 p.a. to $12,500 p.a. and are awarded on the basis of academic merit, as well as personal qualities such as leadership skills, initiative and motivation.

Some limited international scholarships for waiver of tuition fees are available for later years based on academic performance (international merit scholarships) for undergraduates. Postgraduate scholarships information is on the International Office website.

Special Admission and Equity Office

The University has special admission and equity schemes for entry and study. Included are schemes for:
  • mature age applicants
  • educationally disadvantaged applicants
  • aboriginal and torres strait islander applicants
  • broadway and regional students

International Students

Full fee paying international students can obtain information on tuition fees from the International Office of the University.

Assistance to Students

Students in the Faculty receive academic assistance from year advisers. Other support for students comes from the Foundations within the Departments, and the Careers and Counselling Centres of the University.

The Faculty is part of the new , Scitech Library created as part of the Campus 2010 project.

The University of Sydney Union also helps students with various services.

The students associations within the Faculty (SUEUA) and Departments and Schools provide social activites within the Faculty.

The University also has approx 160 clubs and societies for all students.
